The Dangers of Trends and Fads Old and New

The Victorian and the Current Era have much in common such as trends, fads, new technology, and everyday hygiene like brushing teeth. However, back in the Victorian Era, some trends were often bad ideas, in some cases unhealthy, deadly, or harmful to the environment. Even though products have improved with regulations, and product testing of foods, drugs, makeup, and household items, people may still suffer from other harmful household items used that remain in older homes. New trends today are similar to the Victorian Era with the return of products such as corset use in fashion and other trends that may be dangerous, like Vaping. Vaping has caused recent user deaths.

I first just took pictures of my model, then based on my research, I created a planned composition using photoshop with photos of my model combined with other objects for use in the next set of pictures. After printing the model's photos, backgrounds, and other composition objects I selected to use, I cut them out, propped up the cut-outs by taping them to plastic straws, and inserted them into a large block of Styrofoam in my planned composition, much like a diorama. I used green and red colored filters with the lighting to take a photo of the miniature sets. I used the green filter lighting to represent disease and the red filter lighting for death. Finally, I adjusted the pictures in photoshop to create the final product. The red "X" represents death and the over-killing of birds and animals for hats and fashion.

Special thanks to my friend and cousin, Emily Wilson, for being the model for the shoot.
